KINU Unification Survey

Since 2014, the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU) has conducted the KINU Unification Survey, an annual public opinion survey program.

  • The survey has been administered once or twice each year, enabling longitudinal analysis of public views on unification, North Korea, inter-Korean and North Korea policy, perceptions of surrounding powers, political attitudes, and security awareness.
  • The survey employs face-to-face interviews with approximately 1,000 respondents per wave. The sample is drawn using stratified proportional allocation by gender, region, and age based on official resident registration population statistics, followed by random selection. The survey achieves a 95% confidence level with a maximum margin of sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points.
  • For research transparency and secondary analysis, SPSS datasets, questionnaires, and codebooks (both Korean and English) are made publicly available.
