In cooperation with the Ministry of Unification, the Korea Institute for National Unification held the “Ministry of Unification–Korea Institute for National Unification Joint Academic Conference” on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the Diamond Hall of The Plaza Hotel Seoul, under the theme “A Paradigm Shift in Korean Peninsula Policy for Ending Hostility and Achieving Peaceful Coexistence.”
The conference opened with welcoming remarks by Minister Chung Dong-young and a congratulatory address by Lee Han-joo, Chair of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences. This was followed by a keynote speech by former Director of the National Intelligence Service Suh Hoon on the topic “Prospects and Tasks for a North Korea–U.S. Summit.”
The conference consisted of two sessions in total. Session 1, moderated by former Presidential Secretary for Unification, Foreign Affairs, and National Security Moon Chung-in, discussed “New Approaches to Resolving the North Korean Nuclear Issue: The Theory of Driving a Peace Regime and Arms Control Strategy.” Session 2, moderated by former Minister of Unification Lee Jae-joung, examined “The Peaceful Transformation of the ‘Hostile Two-States Theory’ and Measures for Exchange and Cooperation.”
